1. Where did the name 'Journey' come from?
The name was determined by a member of the road crew. Early Journey went by the name of The Golden Gate Rhythm Section.

2. What is the (brief) history of the band?
Journey came together through the vision of manager Walter "Herbie" Herbert in San Francisco, CA in 1973. The band released three prog-rock albums (Journey, Look Into The Future, and Next) before label pressure forced them to hire a vocalist and modify their style. Robert Fleischman had a short stint as frontman in 1977 before Steve Perry was brought in. His first Journey album, Infinity, featured songs of a more radio-friendly sound and was relatively successful.

Drummer Aynsley Dunbar left after the Infinity tour and was replaced by Steve Smith. Evolution and Departure were released. A live album called Captured was released in 1980 just before keyboardist Gregg Rolie left the band. Jonathan Cain replaced him.

Cain's songwriting and piano talents create a distinct difference in Journey's music on his debut album, Escape. The album was a number one hit in 1981 and featured Journey's highest ranking single to date, "Open Arms". Following Escape was Frontiers, after which the band took a year off to do solo projects. Raised On Radio saw Journey together again in 1985, but bassist Ross Valory and Smith were absent in favor of studio musicians. Perry, Cain, and guitarist Neal Schon toured for the album until tensions caused the band to break apart.

Perry, Schon, Cain, Valory, and Smith reunited in 1996 for a high-exposure album, Trial By Fire. The album never saw a tour, though, due to Perry suffering a hip injury while on vacation after recording. Tensions once again ran high over Perry's medical situation and in 1998, Schon and Cain informed Perry that they were looking for a new vocalist to continue Journey.

That vocalist was Steve Augeri. Smith opted out in favor of other projects, and was replaced by Deen Castronovo. The revamped lineup made its debut on the soundtrack for the film Armageddon in 1998. Since then, Journey has released Arrival, Red13, and Generations. They tour annually.

Journey suffered a scandal in 2006 when fans accused Augeri of lip-synching in concert. It was revealed that Augeri had sustained vocal damage while performing with Journey, and was replaced in the lineup by singer Jeff Scott Soto. Journey announced a new album centered around Soto's vocals, but in June 2007, the band announced that Soto was no longer with them. Journey hired the previously-unknown Arnel Pineda as vocalist in December.
